seal on pto sgaft

took the housing that hold s to replace seal, does the seal go all the way into the housing? the one in there lacks about 3/8 inches to the flange.

According to my MF service manual the "seal is pressed to below the edge of the chamfer at the edge of the front retainer (about 0.070")"

My manual doesn't say any thing about replacing the seal, your saying put the lip of the seal just below edge of mount.

I do not have the tractor in front of me to verify. I wrote what the manual says verbatim. Do you have a IT shop manual or a Massey OEM manual. The OEM manuals are much more detailed, about 1000 pages, and cost a fortune. Jensales offer reprints that are slightly more affordable, but still cost a mint. However they are a godsend if your working on the tractor much. When I was rebuilding my engine I had the IT manual, Perkins OEM Manual, and Massey OEM manual. I could have done it with the IT manual, but would have guessed at some steps.
