Or maybe I'm just showing my age? There was a time when finding a living local phone number was as simple as picking up a phone book... then Al Gore invented the internet and Anywho was born. :thumbsup: Good wasn't good enough though...

Now phone books are hard to find... and a simple search gives everything except what you're looking for. If I do a search for John Harrison, living 20 miles down the road- the same place he's been for 60 years- I really am not trying to find Jennifer Halbert, 250 miles away. Yet no phone info given... clicking on the link leads to another link, then another... eventually back to the POB yet I STILL don't have his number. Who says that the perpetual motion machine is an impossibility? I should have just driven to the guy's house and hoped he was there... except by the time I got done clicking endless links it was too late at night to go.

P.S., I should have posted a disclaimer in the heading;

This is a major rant! ;)

I searched using Google for myself: phone firstname lastname town, me

The fifth result returned by that Google search was: Maine White Pages

I clicked on that and my correct phone number was the first result.

I'm in Fairpoint's service area but not a Fairpoint subscriber, but it looks like searching for "Fairpoint phone directory Industry, me" is not very useful.

We get a free, unrequested Fairpoint paper area phone book every year or so. I think the last time it came in the mail. Sometimes they just get dropped on the ground by the mailbox.

Finding phone numbers is becoming much more difficult. Many people that still have landlines have gone to having an unlisted number for privacy and security and more and more people have switched to cell phones, which last I knew are not listed anywhere.

Try searching for his address. Then you will get a bunch of hits with his phone number and no addresss:laughing:

Try whitepages.com they are usually pretty good.

I just read that phone companies are going to stop all landlines ASAP. Knuckahaids.

Where did you read this?

I ask because landlines are a moneymaker for them.

I read so much Mike, I canno' rightly remember which news site, but it was just yesterday I read that article. It said, ATT, Verizon, etc., all copper wire providers are wanting to get shed of that service. Do a startpage.com (I do nothing Google!) search, maybe ye can find the article.
