MF 135 & Montana 5740C
I recently purchased a 5740C at auction as a salvage tractor. In the diagnostic process I have come to the conclusion that there is a broken shaft in the engine sump area. When started there is a rattle & heavy scraping (not an engine knock), oil pressure is in excess of 60 lbs, my gauge limit. The engine assembly looks like it will lift off the cast iron pan as it appears that the crankshaft is geared to some shafts in the pan/sump area, most certainly the source of my evil engine noise. The necessary engine removal process looks to be fairly straight forward but I was wondering if there might be a 'gotcha' or 2 in there that I need to be aware of? Any words of wisdom or experience would be appreciated. The second part of my search here regards a tractor service manual. I have researched this forum & the web and have come to the conclusion that the Montana manual is sketchy at best. A forum member is emailing one to me but I am also wondering if anyone has been successful at identifying an LS Tractor model that the Montana 5740 is derived from? Neo 53 or 60? Wishful thinking maybe? I am wondering if LS might be an additional source of information or a manual? Thanks in advance for any info you may have.

Actually, the LS branded tractors came after the Montana branded tractors. I doubt you'll find any heritage and even if you did, you would be equally as disappointed in the LS service manuals as you are in the Montana manuals.

Hmmm, I understood that LS was the manufacturer of my tractor and was marketed in the US under the Montana USA organization? It is a convoluted situation but I understand that a contributing factor to Montana's folding in the US was the fact that LS began to market here directly? My goal is to try and identify the manufacturer of my Montana tractor to maybe locate a manual & component parts sources that are relevant or at least mostly relevant to my tractor.
Thanks for the response, your responses are appreciated.

You are correct. Montana are rebadged LS tractors before LS started selling in the US directly. Perhaps an LS dealer that previously handled Montana can assist you best...

Farmer2009 is correct that LG (now LS) built the tractor. Site shows it was built in 2005-2006 (3 years before the LS models were introduced). LS did continue to build Montana's through 2009 then started building tractors under the LS name. Since you just bought it and are going to keep it download the free parts manual and buy and download the service and owners manuals from the site in post 4. Looks like it has a 57HP Mitsubishi engine. That will be the same engine in many New Holland, Farmtrac, McCormick and other tractors of the same vintage.

I believe it is in the LS 5030 family but don't put my life on it

Ohhh, now the LG, LS, & Montana relationships are starting to come into focus!. Thanks everyone for being patient & getting me up to speed.
I removed the front timing cover in search of my problem & found a gear stripped of all teeth in the front of the oil pan. It is barely visible in the gap between the block & front lip of the pan. It may have been running against a gear on the crankshaft but I will need to pull the engine in order to determine that and to assess the extent of the damage. I am on it! I will redouble my manuals search efforts now with the new info you have provided. Thanks again.
