Sears Suburban 10 with Tecumseh engine

From my previous threads, I finally got this engine to start then run. I hooked up a Del-co starter because my friend and I could not pull start the engine it was so tight. I then had some carb questions which got solved as well as the ignition coil and spark plug wire which simply fell out. I epoxied it back in and it gives good spark.

Current problem or question: Will start and run for several minutes to an hour then the engine simply dies. After a lot of testing we found that the fuel line turn off valve was vibrating it self closed. I will show its picture. Is it necessary or can I replace it with a simple open close valve?

open fully and epoxy ( or silicone) to set it ... then use a snowblower inline on/off replacement anywhere in the gas line ..

jaotguy: Thanks, I followed your advice. Now because it ran so much better the engine noise became much worse because the muffler was in total disrepair and
falling apart. I therefore changed the muffler, but now the engine is not running as smoothly. Since the new muffler is causing some back pressure, does this affect the carb settings?

yes ... adjust high speed first ( bottom of bowl , in = leaner, out = richer ) then the idle jet (same as high speed setup) ....

high speed ( high throttle position) turn in main jet till the engine sound changes (slows down and note position ) then back out till it starts to stumble ( note position and set 1/2 way in between the 2)
