Seat Safety Switch; 1533

This week we had our first snowfall of significance, 15" with blizzard conditions. Midday Wednesday, the wind dropped to a point where the snow wasn't blowing as much so I headed out to move snow. The temp was about 5 deg F. The engine fired up OK, and after about 10 minutes warming up, I put the fwd/rev in forward to continue warming it up. The engine died. The seat switch was not closing, so I disconnected the harness at the seat and jumpered it. This allowed me to push snow for an entire afternoon.

Has anyone had problems with extreme cold making the seat stiffer to the point the safety switch wouldn't actuate? Are these switches prone to failure?

FUNNY. I was just about to ask the same question about my 2300. It's been down in the teens here for about a week and I just went out to start the tractor up like I do every few days and when I shifted it into forward the engine died. I assume it has to do with the safety switch. Do those things tend to freeze up or can the cold weather make them go bad?

We had that problem with out 1523 when we got it. Jumpered it, and problem solved. Did the same on the 1635.

The first thing I did when my GC2410 was delivered was to "fix" the seat switch. I did not want to cut any of the factory wires so I was able to reorient the switch level arm on the shaft of the switch. I removed the switch, then the nut that holds the plastic lever arm onto the shaft, repositioned the arm clockwise 60 degrees, installed the nut and I was then able to tuck the arm into the seat frame and install the switch back into the stock mounts. Now the switch is always closed and I could return it back to the factory position in just a few minutes.

The 1533 switch is inside the seat. I haven't stripped the cover to inspect it and I probably won't. A bypass will probably be the permanent solution.

With it being this cold, the seat is pretty stiff. I squatted on the seat bottom with all my weight on the cushion. I'm 6-4 225# and was surprised it still wouldn't actuate.

I know of a bunch of guys in the snow removal contracting business, not one of them has that switch operating, all are bypassed.
Ice and cold play h-ll on switches and the plastic rubbery boots that protect them from water.

I'LL SHOUT IT, It needs to be disconnected then a jumper put in to mimic the closing of contacts in the switch.

Easier then that!

Cut, bare the ends and twist them together!

BUT, a jumper looks neater.

That's what I'd do, I like twisting bare ends.
