I'm sure the seat sensor that shuts off the rig when you dismount in gear has flustered many of you, as it has me. Certainly as you put it in Neutral, and she starts to roll away, or when you just want to nudge the tractor to mount an implement. I went through three iterations until I found the ultimate fix. . .

The first solution was to short the switch with a wire. Unfortunately, this wasn't the preferred solution, as when my son drives the tractor, I want the seat sensor to be active. The second solution was to add a switch that shorts the seat sensor. I quickly found out, I simply left the bypass switch in bypass mode defeating the purpose.

My third (and final) solution - I installed a micro switch at the hinge of the seat that senses when the seat is in its normal position vs. folded up. When the seat is normally down, the safety switch is not bypassed. When the seat is folded up, it automatically bypasses the safety sensor by shorting out the wires of the sensor. This provided me quite a few advantages:
- The safety switch is fully functional in normal operation
- If my son gets off when it's in gear, the rig shuts off
- If I need to nudge the rig, I lift the seat, place the tractor in Low, and push on the foot peg w/ my hand
- If I want to get off and leave it running in gear, I simply reach for the back of the seat, and lift it up while I'm getting up. The 2-second delay is plenty to keep it running
- Most people never know about my little secret switch

I attached a picture to help anyone who is interested to know what I'm talking about. The Micro switch screws perfectly into the plastic of the seat. The metal hinge depresses the arm of the switch. The wires are simply placed into the connector without cutting into the harness. I used a little shrink tubing to relieve the pivot point.

Feel free to contact me if you would like more info.

Great idea. I have thought about this a number of times but your solution is the best and maintains an important (but sometime aggravating) safety feature.

Neat idea. It also would allow one to use PTO implements (ie. chipper) which are not operated from the driver's seat.

My concern would be if the tractor rolled and someone fell out of the seat, but landed next to the tractor. If the seat flips forward enough, the tractor will still run. If a mower or PTO implement is running, this could be a hazardous situation. Of course, this would only happen if the seat belt is not worn.

If there was enough of a jolt to both throw a person off AND flip the seat up, you might have bigger issues that just the PTO running when you land. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
