Seat Safety Switch / Cold Weather Woes

I'm not sure I remembering correctly but I think it just kept you from starting it and didn't kill the engine if you got off but I could be wrong.
Mine does. On my ZTR if you shut off the pto and set the parking brake you can get off without it killing the engine. I installed a switch in the tractor seat safety. I can count on one hand how many times I have turned it back on. Since my tractor is a HST, I fail to see how it would actually help anything. On my Grandpas L3800 which has a simple lever under the seat which can be easily disabled with a zip tie. We were forced to disable it because it didn't work properly and was killing the tractor under normal operation. Two other pluses to disabling the seat safety. Warning the safety police will not approve of either. You can stand up and drive which is helpful because it gives a better view of the loader. If you have a HST machine you can push the pedal while standing on the ground which is helpful for hooking up an implement.

Not sure how Mahindra does their switches, but if they are like Kubota, my first guess would be that one of the other switches (PTO or HST pedal or gearshift) is sticking and making it think that the PTO is on, or the HST pedal/gearshift is engaged. As such, when you get off of the seat, it thinks that you are going to get run over or chopped up by the mower.

oh, I was assuming that the machine shut down when you left the seat. I have a riding lawnmower that did that. Only the first day....

I think most people tie a rope on their push mower handle for the same reason. In my opinion all the safety features are more of a pain in the butt than they are worth but (DISCLAIMER) "the choice is up to the owner". I can't even start my Max 22 without pushing in the clutch. That's a pain when I'm backwards operating the backhoe and the wife walks up and wants to talk. I'm "required" to shut the tractor off. Then I have to get off of it to restart it. A "start" button back on the hoe would be nice also. A few little tweaks would make things better.
