I noticed on my new B7800 (<10 hours) that the seat safety switch doesn't work. I read the manual and know that there are two switches. The first one is pressed in while you're sitting down and the second one gets pressed in when the seat is folded all the way forward. So you should be able to just stand up (or fall off) the seat and the tractor will shut down.

That doesn't happen on mine. I can stand up on the platform and hold the seat off of both switches which shoud shut down the engine. The engine continues to run.

The switches and wiring seem fine. But does anyone know if this works in a different manner? What else could be the problem?

Thanks!

Are you sure it is always supposed to shut off when you get up? On my BX2350, it let you get up if the engine is running at near idle speed. If it is revved up higher, or if the PTO is engages, it will shut off.

The switch does not shut off the engine unless you press the hydro pedal or
have the PTO engaged.

Personally if it were my new tractor, I would be GLAD that the "safety" switches were inoperative......they are a pain in the &ss in my opinion if you want to do any real serious tractor work.

Make it stop! I can't get the phrase "watch this" out of my head! Nothing is more important than safety while operating a tractor!

On my L4400, the switch is only operative if in gear. This means it will only stop if you are moving but not if you get off to open the gate. I am assuming you do put it in neutral and not lowww gear to let it drive itself through the gate! This was a system used by the father of a friend from work. He has stopped now that he has left hospital after being run over at the gate!!

Hahaha, thats exactly what I do sometimes. Like let the tractor slowly go by the shop and jump off to get a tool and jump back on.

On my B7800, those 2 switches come into play when the PTO is engaged. If I get off the seat with the PTO engaged, the engine will stop unless I quickly flip the seat forward. (See Test 5: Switch for the Operator's seat on page 52 of the Operator's Manual.) I haven't tried to see if this is also triggered by engine speed as mentioned by drssg on his BX2350.

The only time the seat switch comes into play on my BX2350 (that I've found) is with the PTO engaged or when you hit one of the hydro pedals. I did find a cure for the tractor shutting off when going down hill, I removed one of the 2 "Z" shaped plates for the seat switch. I just checked the parts list and it only calls for one. Go figure why there was 2 in the first place.
