I have been having intermittent issues with the tractor shutting off when I get off the tractor. I put the hydro in N and set the emergency brake. Sometimes it would idle along after I left the seat, but at this point it will shut down every time. Where is this switch and how is it adjusted?

Another minor detail...it's a BX-2660:)

It might be the hydro pedal not being centered, I think it has to be in neutral position regardless of where the shift lever is.

The seat switch shouldn't make a difference if the hydro pedal is centered and the PTO isn't engaged. It's only supposed to kill the engine if those conditions aren't met.

Both of these thoughts are based on the way the larger L series safeties work. I don't know enough about the 2660 to say for sure.

remove the switch. I removed all mine on the bx...No need for them.

Easy way to check if it is the HST pedal or seat switch. Next time it dies, fiddle w/ the pedal to make sure it is centered, push the clutch in without getting back on the seat (safety police alert) and try restarting. If it starts up then you know it is a matter of adjusting the HST pedal so that it auto centers like it should. Another option is next time it dies when you get off, try getting back in the seat again without touching the HSP pedal and restarting. If that works then you know it is not the pedal. You just need to isolate what the issue is first and then work on your solution. IMHO

i have a mx5100 that does the same thing. Just started about 2 months ago. put the tractor in N and if i get off the seat it will die in about 2 or 3 seconds.
I've looked at all the safety switches, the one under the seat, the one for the shifter and the one on the pto and cant find anything wrong. really starting to be apita

Check the PTO lever and the HST pedal. On our BX2660 I sometimes hit the PTO lever or the pedal on the way out and it shuts off it.

It a little box 1x1 on the left side under the step. Mine did it too and that was the problem

My MX5000 has a seat switch as well. Seat switches according to the manual are always designed to cut out the engine if you get off the seat. It's designed to cut out the engine if you re thrown off the tractor. I taped mine so it wouldn't cut out the engine, but I always wear my seat belt.

No clutch on a BX. Like Chilly said, it's either the neutral switch on the HST pedal or the PTO switch. The seat switch will only cut out if the tractor isn't in neutral and/or the PTO is engaged and you get off the seat. By the way, the seat switch itself is inside the seat bottom.

I have a L3800 - with about 60 hrs on it and have had chronic problems identical to what was posted here. The seat switch was replaced but the problems still happened intermittently. The mechanic finally determined that the hydro petal was not returning completely to the "neutral position". After lubricating it with Chain Lubricant the problem went away. It has been about 10 hrs now and the problem has not happened. I keep a can of Chain Lube handy and occasionally spray the petal linkage which keeps it moving freely. You don't need to get underneath the tractor - just spray the linkage in a small opening to the left of the pedal - while standing on the left side of the tractor.

Give it a try....at least in my situation - it has worked. Good Luck.

I'm 64 and I have all my appendages ... mainly because I have tried to be careful with cars, trucks, tractors, etc. Whatever ... each safety switch represents a lawsuit because some one was injured. I don't heal like I did when I was 20. I also move a lot slower to get out of the way of for instance a run a way tractor.

I think the smart money will bet on keeping the switches and solving the issue. We all do stupid things at the most inappropriate moment.

A neighbor just got his new diesel truck out of the shop because he released the parking brake without putting the truck in Park after checking the transmission. Of course once the parking brake was off and the truck was in gear it plowed into his fifth wheel. He still doesn't know what possessed him to release the brake.

A farmer of 30 years had a 1500 lb roll of hay lifted too high and popped the clutch. The bale rolled down the fel arms and trapped him between a fender and the tire. About 30 minutes later a neighbor found him after the tractor run into an immovable object and the tire was smoking from spinning so much. He is alive but he doesn't get around like he used to.

So .. go ahead and disable all those switches. Just make sure your life insurance is paid up.

Had similar issue with safety as well on L3800, started to happen when cold, also noticed that i had debris stuck in pedal linkage. Once it was cleaned out the problem went away. Also would recomend checking that area frequently when driving through wooded areas or brush piles

There used to be a show on called "Rescue 911" and there was an episode where a Dr. and part-time farmer was moving round bales with a loader tractor with no ROPS or cab and he lifted the bale high enough to see under it and rolled off the FEL, across the hood and rolled right over him breaking his back and severing his spinal chord, paraplegic forever. His wife found him bent over backwards still in the tractor seat. He went through rehab but went back to his practice and had to use a powerchair that would stand him straight up. We never move round bales with a bucket, anyone who does without a grapple or a strap on the bale is asking for trouble.

Dodge came out with a recall on my diesel Ram so that the engine would stop if the driver got out of the truck with the engine running and not in park.

Hard to make machinery idiot proof.
