I have a STIHL ms 362 mtronic and love it. I cut about 4 cords per year with it. I was limbing this weekend, and wow my back took a beating. I am considering a second saw. I tried not to, but I don稚 have a choice. I am looking at a MS 194 ce. The rear handle. Since I知 tall, I will get the 16 inch bar, but aren稚 planing to cut anything over 6 inches it with it. Theoughts?

With an 18" saw, it's 2 less inches you have to lean over VS a 16". Your chains will stay sharper longer, too, because they're 4" longer, so less travel through the same diameter wood.

Both my dad and I have ms170 saws for trimming. I figured if my dad couldn't ruin it that my saw will last a long time. We definitely got our money out of them. Yeah, they are a cheap saw and my 026 is 4 times the saw, but, the 170 is light and cuts fine.:2cents:

I hate limbing with little saws. You don’t get anything done for pinching the saw. I run 3/8 chain on a 50 cc saw for limbing.

I use a top handle stihl 200t. So much easier and faster that using a big saw with a long bar...

If you cut the trees down and then limb like I do, and if you are cutting quite a bit of 3-6 inch limbs, I would get a 50cc saw. I use my trusty 026 for bigger limbing. If I'm cutting many small limbs above my head or evergreens, I'll use the ms170. Physical size, age, fitness of the operator makes a difference too. I'm retired and getting older, I utilize the smaller saws when I can so I don't get so tired, because that is when people get hurt.

Top handles have a higher rate of injury though. If he is on the ground, I don't see the benefit of a TH saw.

I've got a couple of these little spotter 170's and they are great for little projects. I run a shorter bar on them with a rim and sprocket set up, full comp chain. I can't fault them at all for small limbing. On the other hand, if doing production timber limbing , a big Husky or Stihl with a 32" bar is pretty much the standard for walking down a stick and limbing as you go down the log. That's how it's done, logging in the west. What ever you use, wear chaps. and a brain bucket, gloves and glasses.
