I've been looking through the threads here to get some ideas of how I should secure my tractor to the trailer I just recently purchased. Tractor is a JD2305 which weighs about 1500# and the trailer is a 16' dual axle 7000# GVWR. I recently bought two 20 ft Grade 70 5/16" in chain which I had cut in half so now I have four ten foot lengths of chain. My plan is to secure all 4 corners of the tractor using those 10 ft pieces of chain with ratchet binders and I think I am going to put 4 clevis shackles at or around the 4 corners of the tractor as my attach pt on that side and bolted on D-rings as my attach point on the trailer side. It's possible I could have a FEL attachment and rear ballast box or some other rear attachment as part of the rig to trailer. Those attachment items I would secure with a ratchet strap of a decent WLL. Some people might say this plan of mine is overkill for a relatively small tractor but I'd rather err on the side of caution especially after witnessing some many folks in a trailering situation not doing their due diligence and potentially putting other people's lives in danger because of a gross failure to secure their load. I will post some pics when I get it all set up and ask for some critique and also some direction with placement of the load on the trailer. Anyone wanting to chime in now about load placement on the trailer and/or my plan, that would be good info to have prior to my final tie down set up. Also what hardware grade should I be looking at for the bolts I use to secure the D-rings to my trailer and is that something I can purchase at HD or Lowes? I've heard Grade 8 mentioned before.

Thanks guys!

I transport a 1026r on a 14' single axle landscape trailer. I chain down 4 corners with 5/16 chain and use two motorcycle straps on the fel bucket plus one on the backhoe bucket. The straps have a 600 lb working load so they are unlikely to break but much faster than the ratchet type.

It tows best when loaded backward.

I'd weld the d-rings to the frame if I were you.

Your plan sounds solid and you did a good job on your home work. Use your plan and be ready to try the load in different spots then when you find out what works mark your trailer for it.

My tractor rides much better backed on the trailer but if I have a heavy implement like my bush hog or box blade it had to go on forward. My trailer is a 7,000# unit also but 18' long and my tractor with the heavy implements is about 5,600#
