Might as well be enthusiastic as overhead this close to the house would be butt ugly. Once I learned to pull the wire before gluing the conduit it got easy! Besides 6-3 with ground isn't THAT tough to work with.

Regarding the trick with the glued up conduit:

The electrical supply houses sell a little piece of fluff with a leader on it. You tie on your own light string and use a small vacuum cleaner to suck it from where you put it into the conduit to where you want the wire to exit. There is no conflict between a tight fit of the vacuum nozzle and the string when you use it to suck instead of blow. Pat

We call that a 'rat' when we have chase pipe and the installer forgets to leave a string in them for us, we suck the rat thru..

Yes Pat I was attempting to be humorous. I got to remember to include my disclaimer more often. Trust me if my wife seen all that you have gotten finished on your house since we were there and compared it to what I have gotten done at mine she would have unfavorable performance reviews of what I have accomplished.


I am very impressed you are getting a lot done. I cant wait to see it with all the improvements you have made.

Actually they do all have names:

Number 11 is Butterball, so named because she was so fat when we got her at 7 months, a real show calf, an ideal Angus poster calf but who has aborted or reabsorbed the zygote (or small fetus) repetitively ( I think) and never delivered any calf dead or alive. She has to get on the bandwagon soon or she will be renamed to Burger and take a trip to town (euphemism for sale barn.)

Number 7 is Curly, so named because he has curly forelocks.

All the rest are named momma #1 through #12 (less #7 which is Curly the bull. I have another dozen head on the place belonging to a friend and they are not named except Red 7, Red 22, etc. (I use Green tags)

All of my animals are pretty tame, laid back, and not too spooky. Yet, none are pets and none can be petted per se and any such attempt will get them to move away from you quickly. They aren't so shy when there is feed in a bucket or they suspect same.

Thomas, All that is required to get a first hand inspection tour of my projects etc is to call to make sure we are free and then come on over. Egon has an open invitation too but a little longer commute.

I'm not like totally frantic about my projects. I have secured the services of a helper who generally shows up 3-5 days a week and we hit it hard from 0700 till 1530 with a half hour for lunch (typically soup, sandwich, and fruit) my treat. Another guy came by in the evenings and some weekends and helped me brace the bld for moving and helped with the metal/welding shop enclosing/transformation. He lately takes his kids hunting so hasn't been available much. When both were coming regularly I got sort of burned out working from 0700-1530 plus 1730-2030 but the tempo has slacked off now that the bld is moved and we finished adding wind braces to make up for the fact that the columns are not 3 feet into concrete but are relatively free to pivot where they connect to the tops of the piers.

I have MANY more projects waiting in the wings. If/when weather gets wet and nasty this winter I will start some inside projects like finish work in the basement and other house items. The electrical work was an outgrowth of the bld move and when done will leave me completing the metal/welding shop. I want to string some more electrical distribution and am considering some sort of winter heating like burning scrap wood instead of relying on the wood shop's heat pump.

Of course I may move the automatic propane powered stand by genset to a higher place in the priority list and get that started. So many projects, so little time.

Now if those cattle feeding stations incorporated cattle critter thread mill driven generator that generator project could be put on hold!

Nah, too old fashioned. Appropriately attached rubber hoses to collect methane emissions to use to run the generator is the way to go. So far I have only thought of too complex of methods like overhead trolley with automatic make and break connections. Tangling is still to be dealt with.
