looking for recommendation for a security system. There are many on the market, and most are now totally wireless.
Anyone use Simplisafe?

Do some research and find out how many professional systems are wireless. I'll help you out, it's ZERO. Quality of picture is horrible and constantly breaking up or not working at all.

COSTCO sells some "home owner" systems that are of acceptable quality and not too costly.

Try these people : Wireless Alarm Systems Wireless Security Systems DIY Home Security
I bought a Visonic Powermax Pro which works fine. They also have GE and Honeywell and they will help you setup and program it over the phone. Their associated monitoring service is $9.95/month.

My quote from ADT was over $3500 for install and $35/month for monitoring - No Thanks!

I guess I read "security system" as video. Wireless video is useless, wireless intrusion would probably be fine.

Don't know what you need or what your budget is but here is a system I installed a couple yrs back. Skylink SC-1000 Complete Wireless Alarm System, White - Amazon.com

The install instructions weren't the best but I was able to get it installed and working. As you can see from the link there are quiet a few customer reviews and overall receives a 4 stars out of the possible 5. Skyline offers a lot more different kinds of sensors than come with the set.

I have this system installed out in my shop which is a couple hundred ft from the house. In addition to the sensors mounted, there is a transceiver in the shop. It receives signals from all the sensors. If any are tripped, a built-in alarm sounds and at the same time sends a signal to the main receiver in the house. Upon receiving a signal from the shop, the receiver calls, up to 9, phone numbers you program in. It then plays a message, up to 40 sec long, to these numbers. You can program how the calls are made, number of attempts to reach the recipient(s) and how to dial the various numbers. Either the programmed number of times to each number before moving on to the next number or sequentially and repeat on the numbers that didn't answer.

How well does it work? Can't say for sure in a real situation but I tried it few times when installed and have forgotten to disarm a few times when I entered the shop. Everyone received their call.

There are lots of wireless systems; mostly used for commercial premises and not home systems. Cost is quite a few thousand $. The system I have at my farm is wireless (I did it myself with commercial gear) and I can get 2048×1536 easily at a few frames a second. Dropping to 1280x1024 I get several frames/sec. Using 5.8 GHz and it goes for hundreds of meters at low power, kilometers at higher power.

It's good to know that wireless systems are improving, but "quite a few thousand $" is beyond the scope of most home/farm owners. How many cameras does that system support?

I'm using 2 cameras. However rarely do I use the video. I take the images in from paddock to farmhouse via wireless, do some cropping and scaling automatically, and send them via satellite dish to my website. Hence I get a "picture album" with images every few minutes or so of the paddocks and the animals. The video via wireless is not a problem in throughput - my limit is the data upload rate through the satellite and my monthly MBytes allowance on my satellite internet plan.

Thanks for the feedback, for the price I might just try this one. This is actually for my church. We are in the process of building a new building, and I was going to run wire to all the windows and doors, but I now see almost all the new systems are wireless. I had originally thought of installing the HAI system that others on TBN have installed, but it's rather pricey hardware. I saw Simplisafe advertised online, with $9.95 month monitoring. I already have a camera system, just looking to add some motion sensors and a siren and call capability.
