Hi,

I have a newer Kubota L3400. I need to put in about 75 posts for a fence in SE Ohio. The fence site was previously farmed and the soil is not to compacted or clay-like. I was hoping for some input on what to buy. I am looking for a moderate priced unit that is dependable.

I am also looking for a meduim duty blade that will tilt to rough out a small drainage ditch and grade a dirt road. I have looked at the usual suspects, Tractor Supply and on-line, but have not been able to make up my mind. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
GAP

GAP, welcome to TBN. You will find some good advice here. I will give you my 2 cents worth. To start with, you usually get what you pay for when it comes to implements and attachments. That isn't to say that you have to buy the most expensive stuff out there, just need to truly evaluate what your conditions are.

As far as which PHD to get, pretty much any and all will work for you. One of the things that helps out the most is the auger itself, actually the type of teeth that are on the ends. The better the teeth, most likely the better your auger will dig.

As for a tilt blade, if you are talking about a rear blade that tilts and pivots, then I would say that you should stay with a better quality blade. There are huge differences in how well that they work in my opinion. You might want to consider either gauge wheels or at least skid shoes to help out with the grading.

First place I would look for both of the implements that you are thinking about is Land Pride Post*Hole Diggers and Land Pride Rear Blades & Trip Edge Blades.Cost a little more, but worth it in the long run, to me anyway. You might do a search here at TBN on the implements and you will find a lot of good info. ;)

Good luck with your search.

I don't think you need to spend a lot for a PHD for this kind of use. Tractor supply sells a unit (Spee-Co I think) that will work fine. Thats what I have and I had put in miles of fence so far and it works great.

I have the leinbach unit. NO complaints. I punched a couple hundred holes with it. I agree that if you have limited holes to dig, it may not pay to go with the cadillac model.

Hello
I have the Linebach with a 9" and 12" augers. Poked many holes with no problems with the PHD. Be careful around trees, when the auger spirals underneath a root there is no reverse!
Good luck

I have a Rhino PHD with 9" auger that I have used for 40 or so post holes. All went well accept for a couple that had major hardpan under the surface. For those a PHD that had a downforce kit option would be nice.
