So I got me one of them Direct Mounted 3905161S Fleetguard air filter minders. As it suggests, most air filter assempbly have a tap ready to accomodate.

Remove the red cap

We simply add a little plumbing tape and the brass fitting that seems to screw right on.

Voila

Problem, of course, is that you cannot close the hood. I found a brass "L" that in theory would work, but the only one I found has a sleave that moves and secures by snuggly tightening against the base and I don't trust it. I need a solid brass "L" or I would recomend opting for the remote Fleetguard Filter Minder 3911025S - with a 25" air hose.

So is the air filter minder's spring rated for that little motor? Looks just like the filter minder that I have on my 7.3L turbo diesel. If the spring isn't light enough and specifically designed for the size motor you're attaching it to, it will do you no good - the filter will plug up completely before the filter minder will show anything.

I know it seems like a nice novelty, but with those filter minders, you shouldn't completely rely on their accuracy, since their accuracy relies on nothing more than a flimsy, mass produced steel spring.

Problem, of course, is that you cannot close the hood.

You could always take the back-woods approach and make a hole. Probably not my choice. But if you do, be sure to airbrush some nice flames leaving the aperature. Somehow makes holes look cool.

While you're at it, you can turn the exhaust so it goes out a smoke stack instead of the wimpy exit out the snout. And be sure to put one of those flappy things on top or you'll have to resort to an old McDonalds cup. Of course the thing would need to be 4 feet tall to not give you a face-full of exhaust every time you crank it up.

In your pictures, I see a wire plug in the same area. Is that plug connected to a lamp on your dash for the air filter alert? On my L4200, that filter minder is not just a mechanical, visual thing… it is an electrical switch, when it activates it will light the lamp on the dash.
The reason I ask is, if you already have the wiring harness and a lamp location on the dash like the grand L series, and I’m sure others… why not get the electrical switch type?
But you are right… more bells and whistles are at times cool and almost any thing you can add is also usually cool. KennyV.
