You all were so terrific in helping me with my old sickle mower problem, I thought I'd throw out my second (and only other current) question. Please keep in mind this is pretty new to me - my husband left and I am trying to keep my farm running
I'm a quick study and fairly mechanically minded . . .
I bought an old Farmall 504 gas this winter. An old farmer helped me go through it top to bottom, except for the rear hydraulics, which he did not have time to help me with.
3-way hydraulics for the tractor's Farmhand loader bucket/grapple work great. We completely drained all tractor fluids and added new, checked hoses and connections, etc.
The lever on the rear hydraulic pump by the seat is rusted/seized, however, even after lots of PB Blaster. I opened the faceplate to see what was inside. One of the three holes has hydaulic fluid in it, but nothing gushed/flowed out. Maybe one or two drips. Other two holes seemed dry.
What would my next steps be to try and fix this problem?
I'd like the rear hydraulics to work to raise/lower my old NH sickle mower when cutting hay/pastures. NW MN is rocky, no matter how many you pick. I don't need hydraulics for my old NH rake or square baler, so if you have other suggestions for the mower, I'd appreciate that, too.
Forever grateful in NW MN (with 23" new snow Sunday),
