Seized Steering Knuckle 2wd 4500

Mahindra 4500 2wd

Started hearing a squeak when turning the steering wheel a couple weeks ago. The noise got progressively louder. After jacking it up and removing the steering linkage yesterday, I found that the left wheel steering spindle is seized. I can just barely turn it with a pipe wrench.

I have tightened the grease relief valve and shot more grease in it. Also removed the top seal and am soaking it with PB buster. Neither has helped.

How do remove the spindle and repair it? Afraid I will damage the threads beating on it.

This is not a fun task.. I have done a few and your best bet is to buy a new asmbly. If your going to tackle this you will need a good punch and heavy hammer along with a torch... there are brass sleeves inside of the spindle and with little grease or high moisture areas like your in they build up and seeze to the spindle... there is also an update when you start looking for parts so be very careful when ordering single little parts trying to rebuild it.... its mainly the linkages that have changed

If all would come loose nice and easy this is the main part that would need to be replaced... but usually you have to replace the spindle due to extreme measures needed to get the old one out

I used heat, a heavy punch and a heavy hammer. Put something like a jackstand under the axle as close as possible, so as to have a good solid backing for your pounding efforts.

When I got mine apart, I ran a drill driven rotary brush inside the bushing, buffed off the pin with the wire brush on my bench grinder, and replaced the grease fittings.

Slathered some grease on the pin, reassembled and squirted some grease in the fittings.

Nothing needed to be replaced.
