Tractor
kubota
I plan on importing a 70 to 80hp 4wd tractor w/ cabin and 6ft tiller.
I have gotten some prices online here痴 what I would be paying
About 12-14K for the tractor + $500 for cabin + $800 for the tiller + $1100 for freight and insurance.
Tack on another $1500 for tax/duty here. All in it can be easily done under under 20K USD.

But my question is what brand? Futon seems pricey...
Also, how about the EPA and Tier 4 certifications? I live in Canada so this would be shipped to proc of Vancouver.

I have so many questions that I would not mind paying someone for a few hours of consulting!!
How to pay these guys/all at once?
What happens if the port people seize the tractor for not having the right emission compliance? Do they even care for a single tractor? Oh I can go on and on...

IMHO, if you think the Futon is "pricey", perhaps you should check John Deere, New Holland, Caterpillar, etc. first.
The tractor must be in compliance with all environmental regulations applicable to the port of entry, in your case CEPA-1999. And yes, it can be confiscated, and most likely destroyed (the factory won't take them back for a refund). A small single unknown importer has very little clout, this is why it's best to go through a broker that knows all the details. I imported mine, and learned there were quite a few hoops to jump through. Prices quoted are usually "FOB" and payment in full is required before it's loaded on the ship (it may or may not be containerized), and then it's all yours, and the shipping company. It will sit in bond in a warehouse/storage facility until shipping charges and duty are paid. Good luck.

If you are using a shipper to deliver the tractor they will take care of the import/export documents.
If your doing it yourself then I would contact your customs/border people and ask what they require.

Yes they will seize 1- tractor, it must meet the current emission requirements for your country
Once they have your money its your tractor, I would not recommend self importing
I think your quoted prices are off, you cannot get the tractor shipped for $ 1,100.00? IN a partial container the tractor would only be a part of the container, and would have to be running and driving ,

Hey bob - how do you know CEPA 1999 is the one - are you certain? These laws are so complex I think the best is to talk to them in person...
Yes it is FOB meaning another 4 grand for freight and maybe 1 or 2 for duties.
So 26K. With Kubota that would be 50K..

I spent over a month in china few years ago - the cost difference is 6:1... Thats why I felt it was pricey... But maybe thats how things are...

By shipper you mean broker? Do these brokers charge a lot - is it by percentage? or per job? What am i looking at on a 20K tractor?

The emission requirements are rocket science. I talked to Transport Canada about importing a smaller tractor also (18hp) - they told me this machine is not regulated by them. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN. you know 30% of my salary goes to my government and they send me an answer like that. Id rather give you guys that money.

I am just a little cranky with all the bureaucracy...

According to the info I have it's the latest Canadian EPA regulations. There could be more recent amendments though. You are in Canada, eh? The exemption they granted for the 18 HP tractor may not be applicable for higher HP tractors. There may be a threshold or other requirements that must be met.
After you take into consideration all of the footwork you're going to do, not to mention the mental anguish and stress, plus the outfitting and dealer preparations, checking adjustments and final assembly, I think you should really consider purchasing from a reputable domestic dealer. The tractor you receive will not be ready to work, keep that in mind.
