Looking into prices on carports. After reading too many horror stories about delays, less than stellar work crews on your property, etc. I'm thinking I'd like one delivered and assemble and install myself. Possibly on a footer to hold it down or on Sonotube piers.
Anyone have any experiences (good or bad) with any of these outfits? Any information on price, promptness of delivery, quality of materials, shipping costs (I'm in northern NY state) etc.? FYI, I'm thinking 24x24 or 24x30, with 12' high sidewalls so that I can back my bucket truck (11'2" height) under it as well as a 7x18 enclosed trailer or a tow behind aerial lift.

Dont know which "outfits" you mean, but heck YES.....build it yourself and do use Sonotubes 4 feet deep, and go as big as you can.
Sounds like you're thinking of a Kit, rather then buying lumber as you need it. I've looking into kits, specifically shed kits and wasn't impressed....but then i like to over build, rather then just barely meet code...
You mention 24x24 or 24x30....if 24x30 is the longest you have room for, then choose it, but if more room is available, consider longer! It's never ever big enough!!

Hello,
I don't remember the outfit that I bought mine from, but there was a delay. I think about 6 weeks......the way these outfits operate is that they will only come into your area to install when there are several jobs to complete. The dealer told us that it would be installed by a certain date, but that was a crock of .... !!!!! Then it was a Mexican crew, only one could half speak English. Then they slightly dented one of the pieces through their own stupidity and they didn't have any extra pieces with them !!!!! They did an ok job overall, but we had a few rough spots !!!!!! Hope you have better luck !!!!

I've also read reviews where crew members (ahem) defiled property and actually threatened customers. Just looking for some kit prices and wondered if anyone had experience with one of these companies. I've got enough construction experience to put one together and put it up. I'm just thinking it would be a relatively inexpensive and quick way out.
I already have a 25x30 Quonset type building up, but it's full. I bought another one, a never assembled 2008 model that's 16x24. Might be a little smaller than I really need but the price was right. I never assembled it because I think I might have to spend extra money on foundation work to get it to the height I need.
With a carport I could get sonotubes in fairly cheap & easy and do a carport with 12' side legs to get a good height. Then at some point in the future I could enclose it if the spirit moved me.

This would be an all steel kit. A wood structure would push the budget too high. If that burned up the annual Florida vacation fund there would be some unpleasant living with a certain red headed wife!
