Hey all you Montana fans out there. I am a new member to this site and I am also in the market for a tractor. I have gotten tired of researching the obvious choices, JD, Kubota, MF, NH, etc. I have began to research Mahindra and Montana's. I have always heard Mahindra makes a H duty tractor for a cost effective price. I have always assumed Montana's were very cheap and not worth the look. After researching them they do not sound all that bad. I am looking for a 35 + HP tractor with FEL for starters. I have plans of eventually buy a bush hog and tiller later on. My question is this. Does Montana make a good product? I am interested in the 4344 or 4944 R series machine. I am interested in any and all input. Thanks

as a montana owner here i can tell you they are worth a look, they are built by another company and sold under the montana name, for the most part they come with more bells and whistles which cost more dollars in other brands(options) but don't take my word look for your self and make decisions based on need, convenience of dealer and such not just on the color.

i bought a r3644 because of the price and extras from an individual. after using it i noticed that my tractor had extras compared to kioti, kabota, new holland. it was little things like the joy stick for the fel, covers over levers, two remotes and ect. that made me think i did all right. from what i gather they are all made elsewhere put together in usa. my idea is find a place that has parts close and service and compare what parts and peaces they are made up with. i compared my 38hp to my neighbors 30hp new holland it is like the xlt vs the xl. his shape and style is cruder, i have eaiser acsess to my controls, ind or trans drivin pto, i dont have to reach in front of myself for my loader, more lights, but my hood is plastic his is metal, he has a grill guard i dont,. the kioti is alot like the that new holland. i cant pronounce the name of his engine but i can mine and also have heard of mine. the cast iron of the machines look just like each other but his dipsticks are cheaper made. his has the same filter cartridge as mine. as for that , i have a friend that has a very nice kabota 50hp +-range and the air filter, radiator battery are set up just like mine and the filters are the same (looks like they came from the same manufactor). so its all comes down to dealer support, price and the little things that make it easier for the operator. research them, sit on them, kick the tires , open the hood, and make that dealer sell you one. let that dealer tell you why his machine is better make him do some research , he is working for you. i dont think for the most part they are much different than each other and it all comes down to the operator. I always hear dont by chinese, russian but i dont know.
but i really like and i am proud of my montanna and have had no problems for 260hrs on it .
The thing i would change is i would get a cab for the winter and mowing in the summer (dust, heat)

the new holland is a japanesse built tractor with a japanesse engine begins with an s. this by no means makes it a inferior engine, all tractors have issues it is just a matter of time when they show up. fit it to you needs and budget, if a chinese tractor fits youre budget then buy it. you will find lots if owners here that are completly satisfied with their chinese tractor. i like my montana and it fit my needs and my budget, and had the extra little things i liked and didn't want to pay more for.

The R series tractors are very good tractors. I do not have one, I have Mahindras, but I was very very close to getting an R series 4944. It is one heck of a machine. Take a close look at it, sit on it and get a feel for it, see if it fits you comfortably. I would have to say that they are definitely one of the best bang for your buck machines. Compare all of the items that you get as standard vs options with the other brands, I'm pretty sure that Montana has the longest list of STD features, and for less $$$$. When I was looking, the only things that I added was a 3rd rear remote and a sunshade. I suppose that a grill guard would be nice to have also.

Good luck with your tractor search, if you are happy with the Montana dealer, I would seriously consider the Montana R4944.

Thanks for the info. Just curious why you ended up going with the Mahindra?

Not really sure. The Montana dealer seemed like a real good guy, always had time for me when I was looking, (for over a year) Then when I had decided to finally buy, he didn't have time for me, I went in 3 times to make the purchase and he (the owner) was always to busy. I think that he was starting to go through a messy divorce, all the R series tractors disappeared, and I thought that he was either dumping Montana or going out of business. So I decided to just stay with Mahindra since I already had a 7520.

Oh, the Montana dealer is still there and the R series tractors are back on his lot. If you decide on the Montana, double check the loader specs, for some reason I'm thinking that the 4944 has more lift capacity than the 4344, not positive though.

Good luck

I Have a C5264 Montana, its the more "basic" model, made by UTB of Romania (vs the Krean made Montanas which are a bit fancier).

So far so good, only a few minor issues, but my Tractor is basically 1960's technology.

My big selling factor was bang for the buck and a good dealer.

I got mine for under $20K Canadian, brand new, 52 hp, 4WD, FEL, sun shade,.

the dealer is great.

I echo what Dave said - I have a 5264 with fel as well; 2007 model came with <175 hrs on it. I have since put on another 75 or so and remain very satisfied with the machine.
It's a simple 3-banger diesel 4wd tractor that starts every time and gets the job done. Nothing fancy, and aside from the really lousy Cofle loader joystick (I've ordered a different one from Koyker - the one it came with was poorly engineered, plastic cable ends breaking much too frequently/easily) - I am very satisfied with the "other" green tractor.
