Tractor
yanmar fx-16d
Need advice on selling my FX-160. Purchased in winter of 2008 from Tullahoma Tractor (very nice people to do business with). Included was new box blade, pond scoop, and new tires. Had 1100 hours on clock. I have less than an acre of property and used it to dig a small pond and some grading, put less than 50 hours on it. The knees and back are going (getting old ain't for sissies!) and the wife says we don't need another lawn ornament. The question is how do I price my Yanmar realistically? I paid $5100, but that was from a dealer with a warranty, etc. What is a fair price range and where should I advertise? I'm in south central Tennessee (transplanted Yankee!). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

1) Craigslist, both local and also in any big metro areas within a half day's drive. The best offer may come from someone surprisingly far away.

Use Craigslist's email forwarding to screen the results. That way you are certain of who you are responding to. Demand 'bring cash' in the ad, and stick to cash-only even if you have to accompany the buyer to the local branch of his bank.

Don't list your phone number, that will get nothing but weird results from untraceable people - scammers, people who want to trade you a Harley, somebody in another state who wants you to bring it over so he can compare it to the others he is looking at. Those calls could go on for months after it is sold.

2) Ebay. But you can't use the word 'Yanmar' or they will cancel your auction for trademark infringement. Call it 'top quality Japanese tractor' or something. The second photo (not the one that shows in the index) can clearly show the model # on the hood. Expect to screen through the same nutcase questions.

And a quote from an old ebay self-proclaimed guru (Don Lancaster): If it sells the first time you list it on ebay you set the Reserve too low.

3) Price? ????

I have no idea about the pricing of your tractor, although just as California stated using the CL can get good results, and By posting it in other nearby states might catch the interest of Ga., Al, NC,SC Folks ;) In your Ad try to list as much as you can in detail about the tractor this way it will be self explained no reason for tire kickers to inquire, and when you do get the ever so dreaded inquiry about Info on your "ITEM" then you'll know right away not to waist your time with them folks.... I'm not exactly sure if outside of GA residents can post free in the GA. Farmers Market bulletin? This is another good place that Folks looking for tractors and farming equipment come too brows,
Good Luck on the sale:thumbsup:
