Remember that a Michigan farmers market barred a local from selling because they did not support same sex marriage

I grew hops for a few years. One thing about them is the Japanese Beetles love the leaves and you will need to spray for them. Powdery mildew was another issue. I used them when brewing, but sold a lot of my brewing items and have not done a batch in a few years.
Compost was a good friend to them and I would try to limit the amount of vines coming up to 3-4 it would seem to push out more cones.

Will bear the compost in mind and put it in my notes, fortunately we don't have any disease or pest/insect that attack hops here although I suppose it will only be a matter of time although rabies hasn't made it here (yet).

Some of the larger hop producers will use 18' poles in the ground and wires up to the top. We just used the lattice on the side of our deck, to the top its 15'.
