I am trying to sell a 6' Befco Finish Mower. I am not sure how to go about selling it. The mower has new blades and is in perfect working condition. It is 8 years old but has been garage kept. It has a little rust towards the end where grass had been left on it. Other than that good shape. What would be a good asking price for this mower?

Thanks

Consensus here seems to be 60%-80% of new prices for used equipment. It sounds like yours could be at the higher end. Clean it up and see what you're offered.

Well my dealer gave me a call and said that he had sold it for $750.00. I believe I got lucky there. He said the check is in the mail. Just got lucky.

You got full retail value for this used Befco mower. Be very happy.

I have a Rhino 5' finish mower that has really not had that much use in 4 years since I bought it new. Works perfect. I find that I really don't have much use for it anymore, but I can't decide whether I should sell it or not. The proceeds would go toward a tiller.

I like the finish mower, but I use the brush hog and riding lawn mower and implements are frankly too much of a ***** to change out to be taking off the 'hog and putting on the finish mower for an acre or two.

Sounds like you got a good price.

TractorTeen,

I can only give you my story.

I had been looking for a 6 foot rear discharge mower for a while but couldn't find one that would fit on my trailer that was 6'4" wide between the sides. Then I found a GREAT deal on a used 5 foot Land Pride Air Tunnel Side Disharge mower for $400 (new retail was $1800 if I remember). Then about 2 years ago I found a Befco Cyclone 6 foot rear discharge mower in EXCELLENT shape for $450, so I jumped on it thinking that the new price was probably $1000 or so.

When looking for a new set of blades this past May I finally asked how much they were new. Apparently they are asking about $1800 for them as well. I was shocked. Of course, the sales person claimed that the Befco mower is primarily a commercial unit that is better than the Land Pride and Bush Hog brand units. I don't know which is better, but they certainly have them priced up there with the popular name brands.

Another note: The older units such as mine are RED in color; the newer ones are ORANGE. Maybe more of their dealers sell Kubota rather than Massey? I could not get an answer about the reason for the color change.

Bottom Line: Based upon the deal that I got, you got a GOOD price for your mower. Based upon the price of a new mower that was reported to me, you got a FAIR price.
