Selling Produce

I am toying with idea of selling some of my veggies and maybe heirloom plants. Wholesale to folks who have market if possible. What permits, licenses, tax numbers would be required in alabama?

No comment of Alabama laws, but I will mention that some friends of mine have recently retired and started selling stuff in Mesquite and some big Farmers Market. It's an hour drive to get there, then another hour to set up everything. They are getting $5 a dozen for chicken eggs there, and $3 a dozen when selling around here. Twice that for duck eggs!!! They sold out of all their potted plants in just a few hours at crazy prices. Now they are going to Lowes every day and buying all their discount plants for a buck, then selling them at the Farmers Market for $8 a plant.

They have been at it for decades and never made any money at it. Now that they are selling in a place like this huge Farmers Market, they are shocked at what people are willing to spend.

My dad sold at farmers markets for many yrs. Made a little bit, if you didn't count his time. He just enjoyed it.

probably need to see an accountant to set up a corp. Business licenses would be needed in for the state, cities, counties where you intend to do business
