Anyone here ever heard of the septic D-Box lid coming off by itself?? This happened to me...

We've had a TON of rain recently. Is it possible that it overflowed and made the lid come off? I don't smell any sewage and the system is working fine otherwise. It's a heavy lid as well. I cannot move it alone.

Thanks for any replies.

Woah, that's weird, but yep, my guess is water pressure from all the rain. Strange things can happen. Try to make sure ye drain lines aren't clogged.

Actually what you experienced might be a helpful situation. About the only way for the water to lift the heavy D-box lid is for the drain field to become saturated and for water to back up (reverse direction) the drain lines toward the septic tank. If this is what happened, it has possibly cleaned out any sludge that may have accumulated in the drain field lines. If you got that much rain - you will not smell sewage even if any sludge was flushed from the drain field lines. Remember - dilution is the solution to pollution. If you know that the water entered your septic system thru the drainfield lines - don't worry - it probably did not hurt a thing. It would be best to try to keep animals and humans away from the area around the D-box and drain field area until things dry out and are able to sit in the sun for a couple days. Sunlight & heat will kill bad viruses and other pathogenic organisms.
