Last year we converted from a septic tank/field to a lagoon. Our waste line now bypasses the septic tank. The tank was pumped out before it was disconnected. So now we have a 500 gal tank buried in our back yard. It is about half-way between the house, barn, and our garden.
My wife and kids think this is disgusting, but I was wondering if there is any way to use the septic tank as a rainwater storage tank for irrigating the garden in the hot dry summer? Is it possible to clean out a tank well enough that it is feasible? If it could be cleaned - run some rainwater collection lines from the buildings to it. Then have a water pump and soaker hoses for garden irrigation.
Or would it be cheaper to just buy a 500gal plastic tank and bury it and do the same thing?
Anyone ever do anything else with an old septic tank?
