Just a question concerning New Holland tractor serial numbers....
I just purchased a used NH TN75DA tractor a few months back from a local dealership.
It wasn't advertised as to what year the tractor was until I asked.
The owner looked at the ser. # and told me it was an 2007 and at that point I asked how he knew that. He let me know that it was somewhat of a trade secret determining the year from the ser. number.
Does anyone know how to do that?

It's no secret at all. The year is not in the serial number, but the "Unit No." posted on the serial number plate. The unit number is coded for the year, month, day and shift when the tractor was assembled. If it is a 2007, the unit number should start with 7, for example, a number like this:

7B14B would be translated:

7 - 2007
B - February
14 - 14th day
B - afternoon shift

This code has been discussed here in many threads and is not nearly the mystery as where the ID plate will be placed on individual tractor models.;)

Maybe that's more of the mystery as to where I might find the unit #
I have looked all over both my TN75DA and my TN55 and don't have a clue where else to look.
On the TN75 there's a (according to the book) Frame and Engine ID plate which I found. A Cab ID plate which I haven't found. Both are located in the cab. Then an engine ID plate on the left side of the motor block and a frame ID in the battery area. I have found the last ID plates.
On the ID plate I found in the cab has a "Homologation" # which I assume is the ser. #. On that same plate there is a "Type" listed on the tag but nothing was ever stamped into it.
I'm fairly new to this web-site and I'm not sure I can look back at old threads?
But I will attempt to.

New Holland tractors built after 2000 generally don't have the unit code that places the actual date and shift that the final assembly was completed. The serial number or chassis number can be checked by a dealer and the build sheet including option and equipment detail and build date can be pulled from a dealer-accessed online database.

Lift the hood and it should be on a plate inside the hood, near the front.
