Hello all,

I've just picked up a second hand BX1860 (2010 model I believe) with just a tick under 150hrs on the clock.

As a precautionary measure more than anything I thought I'd change/renew all fluids and filters. Looking at my handbook the 150hr service is limited to some greasing and checking... but at 200hrs there are some filter changes and the engine oil change is due. I notice that transmission fluid isn't due for a change until 400hrs and fuel filter change isn't due til 500hrs.

Just seeking opinions on whether it's worth changing all fluids and filters now to establish a good baseline position as I'm unsure of the previous service history... or would that be going a bit too far given others' experience with these machines at this age?

I was also planning on installing a guard/bash plate underneath to protect the HST fan... closer inspection though reveals the fan has no blades anyway so it looks like I have one immediate maintenance task ahead of me.

Cheers,
Pete

I'm glad you added the info about the lack of fan blades... With that being known, I would personally change all of the filters and fluid and enjoy the peace of mind that you have a fresh start.

Yeah I was going to say just change the oil and filter but as walker suggested, since you know you have a major repair to do to fix the HST fan, and not knowing how long the HST has been without it, it probably makes sense to replace that fluid and filters as well. I had to replace my fuel filters before the schedule due to running poorly on a slope. I would just do those since you will be getting to the rest of filters. Peace of mind when you are all finished and 'like new'. Oh and congrats on your 'new' BX.

Thanks guys,

I've organised a set of filters and oil/lube. Also along with the fan replacement I'll replace the fore and aft CV boots as both are cracked.

I'll also have a good look around for loose or worn parts, hoses etc... is there anything else of note to check on these machines? From browsing this forum and others for a week or two I can't see too many recurring issues.

Thanks again,
Pete

You have probably already done it but check the level of ghe lube in the front axle, it's common that its low when new.

Good idea to change the hydraulic fluid with the fan missing, it might have gotten hot, although with low hours probably not a big deal.

Good luck with your new tractor. On my BX-25 there is a lube point for the HST pedal that often gets overlooked. It's hidden under the floor mat. I don't know if you have this lube point on your tractor. However, if you do, they recommend that it gets a shot of grease every 50 hours.
