I was recently told a remedy for problems with the heaters that have the wicks ....... the ones that turn crusty with usage that drops the performance of the unit.

The fellow that repairs them and replaces tons of wicks advised our nephew to add one capful of the engine lead additive (substitute) with each fill up. He said that it improves the performance of the kerosene big time. (White kerosene is all he uses.)

The nephew has tried it and says it indeed works. The top of the wicks ceased developing the heavy "crust" and he says the heater seems to be putting out more heat. He now uses it in the torpedo heaters as well.

Just sharing for what it's worth.
