Sharpen Blade On Land pride Rotary Cutter

I operate a Kubota 3301L with a Land Pride Brush Hog. I whacked a rock pretty hard and dented a blade. How do I go about repair it?

Depends how bad it is;just a dent won't bother a whole lot.The blades on a bush hog are a "bear" to get off.I have touched mine up by lifting as high as possible,block and crawl underneath.Not fun but couldn't get them off after purchasing the correct socket(2.5in) and two young bucks with a cheater bar.

I sharpen mine with a right angle grinder. I don't remove the blades. As nybirdman said, a dent will not have much of a negative effect on cutting. That would be the quickest way to touch it up.

I lift my mower up and take a right angle grinder to the blades. Not sure about my new to me Deere MX8 mower, it's a tow behind.

Brush Cutter blades should not be "sharp". They should be blunt. Their purpose is to "beat" an object into submission rather that cut it cleanly. Reason being regrowth is stunted. I've never sharpened a brush cutter blade.

For sure;I should have stated that.When new the blades have a blunt edge.You don't want sharp like lawn mower blades.You want to shatter the brush not cut it.

But, Richard, you only live once. Everyone has to sharpen blades at least once! :laughing:I

I've done it once. Now that I have the T-shirt I don't need to again

Recently picked up a used 5' Land Pride to replace my old 5' Rankin: I was after the quick hitch of the LP- not using it on the Kubota, but it makes it a lot easer to hook up. The blades were trashed, so I got my next T-shirt: I had bought a new set of blades for the Rankin but never got around to installing them; I had to buy a new air impact gun (1,200 ft-lbs) to get the nuts off the LP's blade bolts!

Speaking of beating stuff into submission, I was out with my initial run of my BH 286 on the Kioti and got to chop up some big chunks of cedar Beauty of this setup on the bigger tractor is the cab- it significantly muffles the noise.:thumbsup:

Mowing (or dirt work) is 1,000 times more fun in my cab tractor. Usually the wind blows all of the time here (except summer) and when mowing in the open Kubota I had to carefully plan my route. I quickly figured out to never mow downwind

I have to disagree. Even in brush. Especially in grass. Just a waste of horse power and time to lay it over.

I agree. Although I do not sharpen them to a knife edge and maintain the original factory bevel.
