Sharpening carbide

Can anyone shed a little light on sharpening carbide teeth?

I am considering the purchase of a stump grinder. I have rented stump grinders in the past....some had sharp teeth / some didn't. There was a BIG difference when the teeth were sharp.

What does it take to sharpen carbide? I will have about 20 teeth to maintain.....and I wonder if it's practical to sharpen these myself with the right wheel? ....or have it done?

have a carbide cutting edge that I had welded on to my PHD Auger..I use a diamond file..that is all that has ever worked. They make industrial diamond files and wheels..for sharpening...Hope that helps.

use a green weel for carbide on a bench grinder.u can buy them at any industrial supplie 80grit .

I sharpen carbide drill bits with a diamond wheel on a Dremel tool. I also have diamond wheel for my 4" grinder that I use on my carbide demo hammer bits. It works fine. I get much longer life out of my bits and makes the work much less while using the tools.

Last two posts are good.
You can get a silicon carbide "green" wheel for your bench grinder.
It will grind carbide. Take it easy when sharpening ... be sure not to push too hard into the wheel. Let the wheel cut. You can also get a diamond wheel, either a cup wheel or straight wheel. They are much more expensive than a green wheel, but really cut much better. Again, take care with that one an it will last for years.
You can get those kind of wheels (either kind) at an industrial tool supply store. One that sells end mills and cutters and such to machining companies.
