Hi guys and gals, I need some help with a used new to me shaver post pounder.

1. how do you connect the return line to my jd 2155? It has a rubber return line that measures 1.5 inches, which I think its suppose to be 1 inch. But don't know how they want me to hook it up, Is it suppose to stick in the fill post? or is there another port I should stick it on.? Or is there a fitting that screws into the fill cap?

2. I hooked it up ran the tractor without the return line hooked up and it had sum fluid coming out the return line without the valve being touched is this normal I would think it is but when I moved the lever eitherway the pounder didn't move just more fluid came out of return line. any ideas? Maybe I need to have the return line plumbed in before I come to any conclusions? Help!!!!

My tractor is a closed center system, Is a jd 2155. I think the post pounder has a gresen valve and is set up for an open center system. From past posts, I think its an open center system because when I pulled a plug out of the valve it is a plain flat plug about 9/16 inch. I am not sure though what a closed center plug looks like or if that's the only thing I need to do to the valve to make it a closed centering system. any help? I am going to call shaver Monday and see what they say.

Closed center should mean,,,, just that.
No oil should flow, unless something is happening.
If you do not move a lever, no oil should flow.
If you do move a lever, the exhaust oil should go back to the tractor.

We need some pics,,,

Shaver used gresen valves and the Shaver parts breakdowns show open and closed center plugs clearly enough to tell what they look like.

Rick, Those that you have posted are not the correct valve, yes I have looked at those pics. Snippy LOL! I took a couple pics of the valve and what I think is the correct plug but not sure. I pulled the plug to the right of the one with the allen indent.

Now if I was going by the closest pic which would be the hd-8, looks to me the the centering plug is on the left but no allen indent. If I search I find a couple people that have run into this but they never give location on this valve or where they purchased the correct plug. So I search more sites find closed and open kits but no pics to determine which is which. Being wkend, no shaver open, I was trying to get some info before I talked to them so I new what they where talking about. Now you know the rest of the story :) snippy:laughing: Thanks for your time.

I got a male fitting that screwed into the fill port on the transmission when using a Shaver on my JD. The big hose clamped on to the male fitting. I do not recall the return hose being that huge though, but it could have been 1" ID. That project was 18 years ago. No idea where that fitting is and the driver was borrowed.
