On my JD 1023e tractor, the drive-line shield guard on the Frontier rotary cutter sits atop the shear pin which I need to change because it keeps breaking. I am probably not using the correct shear bolt which I plan on correcting. In the manual it says to bend back driveline shield cone. How do I do this? It is kind of awkward trying to tighten the bolt with the shield guard in the way. Would appreciate any help on this. Do I need to un-fasten the shield cone to do this? Surely someone out there has had to replace a shear bolt on a Frontier cutter.

When these guards get in the way I modify or remove them.

+1 Can you simply cut away a bit of the guard(I assume it's the wide part over the universal joint) with tin snips? I had to do that for my snowblower.

Yeah, thanks. Several other people advised me to do the same thing.
