Is there a trick to aligning the shaft in order to remove and replace a sheer bolt? I致e replaced a few over the years, but this time as I turn the blades underneath to attempt to align it all up, everything turns together. Almost like it痴 stuck. It痴 turned so I can see half the sheeted bolt, but I can稚 twist the pto not blades to align it further to remove it.

I hope I explained it well enough, haha

Anything with shear bolts needs the two items to slip and spin when the bolt is taken out or sheared. Sometimes, those 2 items are rusted together so you have a hard time moving them independently. The shear bolt joint should be cleaned up and lubed before a new bolt installed.

Put the PTO in "front" position if you have it. That way, you can turn the PTO shaft by hand. That and extending or contracting its length should allow you to remove bolt parts and to put the new one back. Have done it several times.

That’s the thing. I can’t get the 2 items to spin independently to remove the sheared bolt.

you might need a pair of pipe wrenches to do that.. afterwards, make sure the shaft is well greased to keep out the water, which turns to ice, anf freezes the auger to the shaft, which breaks the auger transmission if an obstruction is encountered..

I don't know what you are working on or where the shear bolt is located.
Can you connect the pto shaft so it will not turn and turn your blade?
I have seen many times if too small a shear bolt, or too soft a shear bolt is used, or the holes get ovaled that the bolt smears when it breaks and it can be to large to easily remove. If you can get a punch through the outer hole and start to drive the slug in the center shaft out it may take some severe pounding to mash a distorted bolt out a round hole, sometimes from both directions to get it to moving.

Keep putting lube on it because if the 2 metal items start galling together, it will be tougher to get them apart.

Also be sure to use proper shear bolts and not hardware stock which is too soft and will tear rather than shear 'clean'.
My experience is that grade 5 shears just right.
Next a drift punch is your tool of choice, that or a punch of exact same diameter but lightly tapered at the work end for easier alignment.

If the auger wont turn freely on the shaft the shear bolt probably tore rather than sheared 'clean'.

On a smaller scale I use block of wood "C" clamped to mower deck to keep blade/spindle from turning when removing retaining bolt of riding mower blades, maybe a block or wedge of some sort to keep blade holder from turning and use big pipe wrench to turn PTO shaft to get better alignment or lock PTO shaft and try to turn blade holder..... Once pin is out, I think I would separate the two parts clean well and remove any galling and reassemble with Never-Seize compound on shaft...
