I have a 4 acre yard with a 2 row shelter belt made up of 5 year old poplars, one year old poplars and 4 year old white spruce.

I try to till every few weeks but I can't keep tilling as I feel I'm just burying seeds and damaging tree roots.

I own round up and par3 and a few years ago to sprayed and killed a lot of my trees (I thought i protected the trees enough but clearly I didn't.

What can I do? Maybe a weaker mix ratio, more covering the trees, keep tilling, grow grass?

I could lay a landscape cloth and mulch but we are talking 1800' each row.

Any thoughts?

What % concentration of Roundup did you use?

One possibility would be to use a wick applicator to apply gylphosate near the trees and to spray elsewhere.

ooh i like that.

i could buy the 5' one and walk the shelter belt a few times..at bit pricey for us Canadians though especially for PVC, some fittings and rope.

has any one made one with good results?

Thoughts?

There are 100,000 shelter belts throughout the Red River Valley of North Dakota, and nearly all of mid to East South Dakota that has an ear to any solution.

I've just returned from a family get together there. Shelter belts and their maintenance is a constant chore and expense!
