She\'s Wounded!!!

My L4610 has been awesome, she has done everything I have asked her to do, and then some, but....
On the way out to the food plots last night, with 900#'s of lime in the bucket, and 700#'s in the broadcaster, two lug nuts came off the rear left wheel and there she sits!! The wheel is tilting in towards the tractor and I can't find the lug nuts. She had to spend the night out in the cold, in the middle of the woods, on a trail in the national forest that ends at my property.
As soon as it's 8:00AM I am calling my dealer to get her fixed quick, but I have a few concerns: Any long term damage possible? Was I supposed to check the lug Nuts?(I've been checking the front like the dealer told me to) Does this happen often? Do you guys have to tighten the lug nuts frequently? Also, I have 30 hours on her, should I have the 50 hour service done now, while the dealer is out anyway?
Appreciate any comments!

Re: She\'s Wounded!!!

Major bummer, Jeff! Other than the obvious check for damage to the threads, you should be okay with a bit of tilt. And yes, you ought to get in the habit of checking all fasteners. Not sure how often, but it should be regularly. I check them every ten hours while greasing the zirc fittings for the loader, etc. And get some spares!

Re: She\'s Wounded!!!

Just to update and clarify, its not the actual lug-nuts that came off, rather the bolts that hold the rim in place to the plate that is held on by the lug nuts. I know I'm not a very technical person when it comes to this stuff, but that's the jist of it. The dealer said that those are set at the factory and I shouldn't have had to worry about them coming loose. He is coming out to pick her up today and take her back to the dealership.
Hope I have her back soon!!!

Re: She\'s Wounded!!!

I'm not going to point any fingers here, but I can't believe you left her out there alone! The least you could have done is gotten a sleeping bag and set up camp and spent the night with her . . . .

Good luck getting her home.

Re: She\'s Wounded!!!

I haven't had any problem with the lug nuts, but I did have a missing cir-clip on the FEL joystick, and one of the bolts that clamp the rear wheels to the axle was loose. Neither caused me any trouble (cir-clip just keeps the joystick from rattlig, and I caught the loose nut before anything happened).

Probably a good idea to keep an eye on things when they're "new". The occasional loose thingy shows up now and then....

Re: She\'s Wounded!!!

jeff: when any thing is new all kinds of stuff colud happen, but as far a s checking the lug nuts every time u use it, i don't think so. do u check the lug nuts on yor car? tractors are made to work, u should not have to check every little thing every time u get on it. proper maint. and checking everthing is fine, but u should not have to do it , all the time.

Re: She\'s Wounded!!!

Jeff,

Sorry to hear about your tractor woes. You might want to add a little blue locktite to the wheel bolts. You may also want to jack up the rear end and check for a bent rim just to be safe.

FYI//I know that my dealer had to reassemble to wheels on my L4310 to change the offset to the widest setting. They did not normally come from the factory in the widest configuration.

Re: She\'s Wounded!!!

Thanks for the comments!
Sounds like she'll be home on tuesday, can't wait! Called the dealer first thing Friday morning and he was to my house and out in the woods by 3:30-he came 70 miles to pick her up. He is going to put a new rim on, as well as make sure everything is straight, check for leaks, complete the 50 hour service, put tubes in the front tires to combat the leaking seals, install my defroster/fan he forgot to install when delivered, and clean her up.
Just this little experience has made me a believer in buying local-I feel very fortunate that I did.
