I was recently given a Shibaura RS3133 tiller by my father-in-law. It has been sitting for about 9 years under a lean-to. I would like to use it with my new JD 2520. He doesn't remember anything about it other than he used to use it on his Ford 8N. I plan to change out all of the gear box and chain case fluid this weekend.

I am a real newbie when it comes to tractors and implements. Does anyone have this or a similar unit? Are there any words of wisdom that you can pass along before I hook it up to my new CUT? Thanks.

About your tiller;

Be sure to have a complete eurocardan shaft with the limited slip frictin disc clutch mounted between the tiller and the tractoras it will protect the tiller and the tractor.:thumbsup:

In regards to the slip clutch: What is the primary difference between it and an overrunning coupler? Would the coupler work ok with a tiller?

a slip clutch prevents lock-up of the pto driveline before damage occurs to either the tractor of the implement.

on tractors that do not have independent pto's a overrunning coupler prevents momentum built up in an attachment from "driving" the tractor when the tranmission has been disengaged from the engine.

an overrunning coupler is near useless with a tiller.

On a 2520 I believe that it would be completely unnecessary for any attachment. Aren't they hydro or at least independent pto?

The 2520 is a hydro with independent PTO but the PTO engages with an On-Off switch and there is not really a coast option. I had read that an overrunning coupler would save wear and tear on the PTO brake and provide some of the "coast". Am I reading bad info?

Honestly, I'm not familiar with the 2520's system. I know I've never used nor seen an overrun used on a tractor with independent pto, including full size farm tractors. I can't believe that there isn't some safeguard in the 2520's system. Have you operated a brush hog or RFM on the tractor without an overrunning coupler? If they continue to spin at all after the pto is disengaged, then there is allowance in the system. It would come to an abrupt stop otherwise.
