Where can I get a manual? I don't even know how much horsepower I have, etc. Where in N. Florida can I get parts if I need them or what is interchangeable with this model?
This tractor is 2WD and diesel but I don't even know how old it is. It only had 9 hrs on it at time of purchase which gives me the impression it is not old at all. I don't know if I got a good deal either, I paid $ 2,500 for it, does that sound good or what?
I know I sound like a dounce but I know very little about tractors but I needed it to mow some 10 acres. I plan on putting a 5 ft finishing mower behind it, will that be too big?

Thanks for your help! Joe

I don't know about parts in N. Florida but I would bet Buck Bond aka EFC can send you anything you need for a Shibaura. He is a big Shibaura man and a straight shooter. The SD1500B is 15 PTO hp and 18 engine hp. They were built in 79,80, and 81. I would say your hour meter has hit the 1000 hour mark and rolled over. Is it a 3 digit hour meter? Your price of $2500 is about the average price for a grey market of that size. The best gauge of the price is whether you are happy with it or not. As for the 5 ft mower, I know people that have put 5 footers on tractor that size and they worked but not as well as a 4 foot finish mower would have. You will definately need some weight added to the front of the tractor with a five foot mower.

I have seen Buck post on the SD series of Shibauras. He is very impressed with their weight and strength - better than a YM1500 I believe he said. I don't think I'd have any reservations about putting a 5ft finish mower behind it, but perhaps Buck will comment.

I am a bit eccentric that is for sure. My daily vision of tractors is from the inside out and the SD model Shibaura's (and SU)have the best view. In some ways they are almost comically overbuilt. Brent is right about the mower. You will need some front weight for the 5 foot model. The SD 2 cylinder has awesome torque and will run the 5' but I would go for the 4' and enjoy the fuel savings.
SD models have inherent problems just like any model or brand. If you need specific info please feel free to email or call. I do have manuals and filters for most Shibaura’s, the SD1500 included.
