bought a used 86 Ford 1910 tractor. having an issue with the shifter stay in gear. both the gear and range just wiggle in the wind. any thought s what might be going on?

First, it sounds like you have a standard shift, non-synchro, with both sticks on the cover. Are the shift levers loose and spin or are they both jumping out of gear. If they are spinning in the socket, slide the boots up and take a look at the pin on the sticks and the cover itself for wear. See attached diagram.
