For taking it out of 4WD, I've found that stopping, going into reverse and backing up slowly for a few feet, the lever will just slip back to 2WD.
Granted, the shifter can be a pita. My dealer told me to treat it like an old Ford pickup with a 3 speed on the column..I do and it's not a problem anymore...my wife drives the 900 a lot and initially she had problems, but now she has no problem.
On a hill, the pull knob, to release pressure is a lifesaver.
Getting off course from the original subject, I figure my brakes will last forever...I can't recall ever using them, even on hills.
