As you see, we're adding a room on the left side of house as well as a larger porch.

The valleys on the new roof have the shingles "leaved" together or what ever they call it when they weave them.

The next picture is on the roof of the porch... here, the circled part looks more like they simply cut a straight line and didn't weave them together.

The wood under this is NOT treated (I'll attach another picture)

Is this typical? Any issues by this not being woven? I do not know what is under it but by the other work you see, these guys have done a nice job so far...which is why this strikes me as odd.

Thanks for any thoughts

The seam behind the front one is normal with a cap on it, the front one should be ok if it is laid over a piece of valley flashing. around here, we leave the flashing showing, but it a choice.

Yep, Richard, I'd just consider it to be a personal preference. I'm certainly no roofing expert, but I have actually re-roofed some houses in the past, and I've done them both ways. And my current home, as well as the one we had from 1977 to 1989, had the straight cut as in your photo.

I've also seen it done both ways, it's important to remember that the asphalt shingles are only part of the weather proofing system. Just as important is the felt underlayment.

Here is a tech sheet for the roofing I had installed on my house a year ago. You should be able to find somthing on the web specific to your manufacturer and local methods.

The cap looks normal.
The valley that is circled also looks right, as stated earlier, sometimes they go with visible flashing in the valley. I bet on closer inspection you will find they have a nice overlap ( or under lap ) to seal the valley, that keeps the "look" better with no metal looking out of place.

Nice addition you got going on there too.

I have a porch on the back of my house that looks a lot like yours. Before the shingles were put on I stood on the roof with the roofer and we discussed how it was to be done. I wanted the weave. He scratched his head for a while and I wondered if he should do the job, then he said he had it. The finished job looks fine and no leaks. For what it's worth, I think the job they did on yours looks fine too.
