I am thinking about shipping a car from LA, CA to southwest, VA. Does anyone have a recommendation on a shipper to use? Also if you have any information I should know on how to do this, please let me know. I am looking for them to pick it up and drop it off at my house.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Don't use a broker. Contact whoever will be doing the hauling directly. In my experience brokers throw out a price and then wait for a driver to come along and accept it. They promise you pickup and delivery times, but those dates come and then pass. I once lost a sale by dealing with brokers and playing that game.

He hauls a lot of cars for the Model T, Model A and classic car crowd. He schedules hauls by where he is (or will be) and you may have to wait until he's near you but he is dependable. If you can't wait, be prepared to pay extra for him to make a special run to get to you. He uses an enclosed trailer.

By the way, he's not a young kid and his prices, while fair and cheaper than you could do it, are pretty much fixed by the mile. Don't try to negotiate a cheaper rate over the phone or he will just hang up on you. He works for himself and chooses his routes.

UPDATE:
He was in Washington state on August 25 but he could be in N.Y. by now. :)

I used DAS and my car was stranded in New York... didn't know there was a problem until it didn't arrive and then I started calling... they said didn't anyone call me?

It was really frustrating being thousands of miles away... I called Passport Transport and they saved the day... cost almost double... I think Passport is now with Fedex.

The reason given was my car was too narrow for their standard hauler... think someone would have known that before they picked it up with a flatbed and delivered to their terminal in New York?

Regardless of who you use, do NOT leave anything of value in that vehicle. It will be gone when you get the car. Even coins in the ashtray or under the seat. That spare set of tools you like to leave in the trunk? Gone. That nice flashlight? Gone.

If it's not part of the car, and it's of any value, it will be gone.
