How does a fella go about buying a shipping container without getting scammed?

. I'm in TN as well. I got scammed on mine a little bit. It was an ugly POS, but in the end its ugliness saved me $800 on the price.

I think the best was is to go to the yard a pick out the one you want, otherwise you get what they have and that could be an ugly POS.

The way I saved some money is the guy who delivered it was not the guy I was buying from. So he dropped it at my spot which gave me some bargaining power. If they had to drive back up from ATL to pick it up they would have lost money. So rather than lose money they dropped my price by $800.

That is the direction I would go for ultimate security. They aren't expensive, I plan on upgrading mine to this type at some point.

I paid ~$100 each for two of these style boxes for my containers. Didn’t like the lower grade carriage bolts that came with them so I welded the boxes also.

I like the American A700 locks and they fit great and fully protect the lock shackle from cutting attacks.

Here I'm 4hr drive from the port in NJ and they want $5-6.50 a loaded mile to deliver a 20' container. If I could find a place to rent a 20' deck over trailer I would save the $1200-1400 and just go get it my self.

Call a towing company and see if they will be willing to do it with a rollback. Probably would still be pretty pricey.

I bought a One Trip container a few years back when building my house. Paint, floor, locks, vents, etc all in perfect shape. Was a few hundred more than one that had been beat to death back and forth across oceans. Worked well for me.

My 20' was delivered on a roll back. I had concerns their goose-neck trailer would not fit around a tight turn so they arranged a deal through a local auto towing place. I was on the edge of their shipping free radius so that was part of the deal.

You certainly need an additional way to secure the doors. The standard latch lock on the container is weak and easy to open. We have 2 old containers on the backside of our warehouse and we had to add a better locking system.

The combination of the Ranger Lock and the Trimax padlock have worked very well.
