I've got 3 implements, I need to get to our farm in Maine. The attachments are in Virginia. There's a 5' Box Scraper, 5' King Kutter roto-tiller, 6' ft spring loaded chisel plow. You guys have any suggestions for a way to ship. I can pallet them and load them at my place in Va. Thanks in advance.

man, shipping them would probably cost as much as selling them and buying new.

it would probably be cheaper to rent a trailer and haul yourself. Ive shipped palatalized items in the past, and its crazy expensive UNLESS your a business and a frequent shipper.

We're driving back up to Me. in April, pulling a boat. It's 800 miles one way. Making another trip of 1600 mi. Yikes!!!

For a 1 time shipper, rates are going to be very high. As said before, sell where they are and buy back in Me will probably be your best bet. Ken Sweet

Ask Doug at MaineTractor.com. He's taking a road trip down south soon to haul back some King Kutter implements (he's a KK dealer), maybe he could pick yours up while he's down there. He drives an eighteen wheeler.

I'm afraid Ken is probably right.

The equipment you listed will sell easily. Maybe Craigslist?? While you are selling, you can shop for rebuy at your destination.

I have had good luck with u ship. I had 15' long 2000lb piece of equipment shipped from North Carolina to Texas for $1000. Also shipped a international truck (33,000 GVW ) from Texas to Kansas for around $800. If you are flexible on timing you can find some deals on uship.

That said I tend to concur with the others. There doesn't sound to be anything special about your implements. Sell them and buy others at new location. Might even be an opportunity to get something different that you might like better.

uShip.

I shipped an old IH Little Genius 2-14 plow (maybe 1000 lb) several years ago from central Illinois to northern CA for $500 (around 2000 miles). I was one of three loads on that run (first on, last off). Took about 3 weeks to get it delivered to my place, but I was in no hurry.

You load is not much larger in size or weight than that plow and you're distance is more like 1000 miles instead of 2000.

Good luck.

A follow up, Thanks for your comments guys. I've contacted, or tried to connect your different suggestions. I'm on U Ship, I couldn't reach David Church. Doug at Maine Tractor, doesn't truck any longer. The boat is big enough for a lot of stuff, but 1,500+ lbs of iron, I don't think so. I contacted a couple of moving companies, and the lowest quote so far is $970.00. I don't want to sell the stuff here in Va. It won't bring much, and in Maine everything is so **** expensive , and not a lot of farm stuff in Mid Coast Maine. We'll go with the 970. Oh yeah, nothing yet from U Ship, one guy asked what were the attachments, but no follow up.

Do you have any friends that might enjoy a drive? Rent or buy a trailer and have them haul the stuff for you. You will both end up at the same place and can celebrate... ya never know. I drove to Bar Harbour and back for a neighbour hauling an 18' Boston Whaler for him. It was a two day trip, lots of laughs, great scenery, some good shopping for me and all paid for. You could see if trucks are going east empty or half empty - they might help you for a cash incentive!

Good luck. What part of Maine are you heading to?

Probably won't help much but what we could use here is a "ruckers/potters" forum.
Over on old woodworking machinery (OWWM) they have a ruckers (people who haul for free)/potters (people who store for free) section.
All the time there are people hauling old wood working machines because they are going in the direction.

You might try advertising on CL looking for space going to Maine.

Now if anyone needs a load hauled to the DC area from Northeast Mississippi I usually bring my duallie back almost empty every couple of months.

Couple of years ago, we bought an old beat up farm house on 3.5 cleared acs. 1 mile from the ocean. Under100K. We've made it real decent, with a barn for boats and stuff. Quite different than Virginia. The town is called Bremen, the biggest town near it is Damariscotta, mid-coast, 1 1/2 hours north of Portland Me.

How big is the boat? What about a moving company to haul boat and everything else all at once?

24' Albemarle. Moving companies have been giving me quotes like $1300. There's a trucker on U Ship that's given me a much better price. Big movers want everything in nice square boxes, my implements are rather... you know bulky, misshapen. I had to stick a pic of my boat, I love this boat.
