Well I think I found a crewcab (see photo attached) for my Unimog! The only problem is that its on OR and I live in NY. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif It will have to be crated and will measure about 108"x76"x66" and weigh about 1100lbs. Anyone know of a way to get in to NY cheap? Anyone living out that way want to come out for a visit? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I contacted one shipping Co. and they were almost $2k to ship it /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif For that price I would drive out and pick it up. then another one was just under $950.00 so there must be a way to get this here for a reasonable amount of $$. Anyone have a suggestions?

Thanks, Von

I recall a guy in our office talking about shipping a big heavy box (mebbe 1/4 the size of yours and 1/2 the weight). He kept calling different trucking companies till he had several prices. As I remember, there was a big disparity in the prices. Our package was going from Pennsylvania to Hawaii. The boat ride was pretty high-priced.

There was something odd about the size/weight relationship. It would have been cheaper to ship if we had thrown several hundred pounds of bricks in our package. Make sure to ask about that...............chim

Von, it amazes me to see the number of folks with flatbed trailers behind pickups with Eastern plates hauling old cars etc. from out West here eastward. I have to say, after being in Maine, steel holds up much better out here.

Rat,
I think it has something to do with the 1 ton of salt per 1/4 mile of roadway in the winter time. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif If they just didn't use the salt, and used common sense instead. We would have cars last more than 10 years here. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Call flatbed outfits. machinery haulers or hotshot outfits. Universal am-can. dallas-mavis, passer, gobs of em outthere. A hotshot hauler from your area wanting ta get to the house would probly be your best bet. Did your rig have a crew cab? That one here looks very clean! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif That is gonna be some kinda rig when you get er done. VERY NICE JOB. I wonder if its a tuff as my yoter? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I think most folks would agree you could have the truck or mother of all trucks being reborn!

Von,
There are always several guys, that advertise on Yesterdays Tractor in the Hauling section. That would be least expensive route to get it. Yesterdays Tractors Hauling page

Call a few trucking companies to see if they may be going to Oregon with a load and they dont want to come back empty. They wont charge as much as going out there one way. Look up Moving Iron in Red Bay Alabama. the fellas name is John holt he has trucks that go all over the country. He may have one goin out that way and hauling inear your residence.

You can also do that by posting a note at the local truck stop. I bet there are some trucker websites out there, also.
