I'm getting ready to put a ceiling in my shop was going to use bright white metal $1.79 a foot today the metal place said I could get galvanized foe $1.29 a foot. I was wondering what you guys think I have 4foot led shop lights do you think the galv wood be ok or go with the white my walls are painted bright white. I do not want it so bright I can't work in the shop but not a cave either so give me your thoughts thanks

What's the purpose of the ceiling?
How high is the ceiling?
How big is the shop?

I've got 4 "shops" in Northeast Mississippi

all needing new "ceiling treatment".

The red one to the right of center has a 15 by 40 apartment across the back with the ceiling suffering from water damage before I had the roof replaced. After looking at a lot of ceiling "treatments" I'm thinking of using light colored pine panels or strips, almost like flooring. For the shop on the far right (8 to 10' ceiling) I'm leaning towards white metal panels, it's due to be my "wood shop". The others I don't know if I'll ever get around to putting in "ceilings". But if I put them in my "RV" shed (on the left where I keep my M4700, which is my 4WD recreational vehicle) at 14' high I'd probably go with galvanized.

If the ceiling is under 10' high I'd go with white panels.

As noted, size of the shop and ceiling height make some difference. However, I would spring for the white for a couple of reasons. It will give you more even light and it will just look better. You're doing this once and it will be there for 40 or 50 years.

For 50 cents a foot I would get white.

I have a white ceiling in my shop and I had to put a towel on the back of my welding helmet because of the reflection off the ceiling "lighting up" the inside of the helmet. Other than that I like it.

Are you using roofing? Are you insulating above? Is there any concern about moisture sitting on top?
