shopping for a 4\' rotary cutter

Old question, but I'm requesting any suggestions for a 4' rotary cutter for under $800.00. Any brand.
Looking to hog 4 acres of weeds, cattails, small sapplings (1") and some light brush about 8 to 10 times a year.

Kubota B7500hst.

You can grt just about any brand of 4ft rotary for under $800.For example Agri Supply(1 800 345 0169) offers a King Kutter for appro. $490 and this brand is a very good mower. There are other good brands such as Big Bee, Southern, Agri-Cutter. I have an Agri Cutter that I paid $450 and it does a good job.It is manufactured by Fred Cain Equipmeny Danville, Ky. I pull it with a Yanmar 1401(17hp).

Do you know if anyone makes a 4' medium or heavy duty cutter (i.e. 10 gage deck, slip clutch, ect...)?

I have the Fred Cain Agri-Cutter also. It is a very sturdy implement - not the prettiest as there are paint runs and a couple of ugly welds. 4' is definitley all you will want with the 7500. Very few things place as much demand on a tractor as a hog.

I have a BX2200 and just bought the King Kutter 4' Rotary cutter from TSC $519.00 and it works great. Had to do a few mods for the BX model though.

I just recently bought a 4' KingKutter at TSC for $499. Have used it once so far and it worked well. Could have used a 5' behind my 2710 but my trailer is only 5' wide so I needed to go smaller so I could haul it. Works fine for the 2-3 acres I need to keep bush hogged. Deck gauge is only 12 gauge I believe but overall seems well built and is certainly a good value.

Question here. I've been using a 4' rotary cutter ( ford 951 - nice unit ), but am thinking of getting a larger mower. I calle dthe dealership where I got the tractor, and they say my NH 1920 will pull a 6' cutter... but I'm thinking more like 5'.. as i mow some heavy brush. For tall brush on 10 acres does a 5' cutter sound right?

I've asked several times for comments from someone who actually used a cutter they thought was too big, with no results. /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif My personal belief is you'd do fine as we've pulled a 6' behind a 1720. I guess if you're used to the 4', 5' will seem enough, but if I had lots of open field work to do, I'd opt for the 6'. Also, I don't think the "heavy brush" is what will put the heaviest load on the tractor. Here in Mich, we find tall, thick, early summer grass, that is more difficult for the deck to clear, puts the biggest load on the cutter and tractor. To me, if you err on the side of being slightly big with your selection, you just slow down the ground speed a little. OK, now for the contrary opinions ... /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

Don't forget to check out the weight. Going uphill while trying to lift a cutter that is too heavy can lead to a crash course in learning to steer with turn brakes. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
