Should I stick with a BCS?

For the last few months, I have been using a BCS 712 that a friend owns but now it's no longer available. I have a 50x100 garden in urban Portland Oregon with lots of crops that need cultivation and beds that need tilling, like, yesterday.

So I'm in a bit of a bind that I need a tiller for this season, but I cannot bring myself to buy anything less than a BCS.

I tried a terrible older TB Pony and immediately gave up. A sharp hoe is more enjoyable than that piece of crap.

What other brands/models would be acceptable? I have some ground that is still "unclaimed": weeds 5 feet tall, semi-compacted dirt. There are lots of rocks and occasionally large pieces of metal and concrete since the garden used to be a junk pile. I want to use the machine for tilling and between-row cultivation.

I've tried Craigslist for BCS, but it's hard to find.

Should I stoop to a T-B Horse or Big Red? What about Honda FR800? What about newer Ariens?

Hey Nat,

I think you've answered your own question.

Type this into google - bcs tiller OR rototiller OR mower OR sickle OR snow OR chipper OR tractor OR plow OR cultivator OR furrower OR hiller OR rotavator -dosko site:craigslist.org - It'll give you all the BCS models for sale on craigslist from Maine to Arizona. Many will be sold already and many will be out of driving distance, but one will come along eventually. I searched for nearly a year before I found an 850 that was close enough to buy.

Good luck!

Bill

Nat, you're already spoiled and anything else you get will be a dissapointment every time you use it. There's also Grillo that you might try that are really similar to the BCS.

Bill, thanks for the Google search tip.

So what do you think about FR800? Is it in the same class as the TB ones?

Thanks for the googling Bill, I had a similar thing set up, but it's less elegant. Hopefully something comes up soon.
