Should the commen NH problems keep me from Blue?

Mike,
I've had my 45D since April. It has 120 hours on it with the 'cool running' being the only problem I've had that has been mentioned on this board. The only other problems so far have been a few loose bolts and one fuel injector that leaked, that I fixed myself in a matter of minutes. My little blue has been more than I expected.

I'm all for green, but I wouldn't change your decision that the blue dealer is the one you like. All colors will have certain things that are not perfect, and having the dealer on your side is the most important factor, IMO. Go for it, and don't look back or sideways with your decision. Be happy and have fun.

Good! Looks like I get to keep blue on the top of my list. Even a great dealer might not be able to make a dog go, but sounds like I'll be in good hands...

Rocky, As one of the "No Joy Joysticks" guys, what has me little miffed is why NH would put a part like that on a otherwise very overbuilt tractor. On the other hand my dealer with one phone call ordered a replacement part and has it in town in a day. It took me 5 minutes to replace it(usually takes me longer to fill the tank with diesel). So as long as they either have these replacement parts handy or they retro engineer the part and fix the problem altogether.

I've not had any of the other problems listed, so I would say just work with the dealer on those issues and see if the cool engine occurs before you purchase it.

Otherwise, I think the big issue is how many blue guys have traded in for a green or orange because of these issues. I would suspect none.

good luck

Well, I guess I am seeing similar problems in the other colors. None too bad, really. It helps to hear you guys say that even though its an aggrevation, you still are happy.

Well, good idea. Except that this is as much for my wife as for me. And I realize that you're also stirring the pot...

Of course i was stiring the pot.. heck If I could have snuck in a 'what oil do you prefer thread, that would have really done it! As for hst over gear, My wife actually thinks the gear is easier. In rush situations, it is just easier for her ( and me ) to react with the ingrained LEFT FOOT TO THE CLUTCH, etc. But from what I understand, it is one of those once you like it ( hst ) you never go back, etc...Just a personal choice.

On a slightly more serious note - Does your NH have a Shibaura diesel? From a YM owner standpoint, how do you like it? I remember your Yanny is a 2 cyl. One of the good poiinnnts, to me, about the green machines is the Yanmar engine...

Yep, my 1920 has the 4cyl shibaru<sp> diesel. I love it. Starts fast too. I notice that the new NH line TC.. like a tc 33.. which I believe would be the equivalent of my 1920,,, doesn't look to well matched when viewing both next to each other. The tc 33 is only 3 cyl.. and less CI.. is lighter, and overall smaller... but has a cute sleek hood. I like that beefier 4 cyl engine in my 1920 and the higher CI.. even if it is sopposedly the same HP tractor.
I do like the range and gearing selections on the 1920 much better than on the yanmar or the 8N. On the yanmar, reverse is either creep or way to fast... on the N, your only option is way to fast in reverse... and I even have the late model 52 with the lower reverse gearing.. so i can only imagine the fear of the other N users with earlier model N's when they let the clutch out in reverse.

I don't think I will be totally sure till they deliver my tractor. I am not 100% on HST, especially since my Yanmar has Powershift. I really want my wife to make that choice. I think I will get along with either... I DO insist on 4WD, which is why I think I'll be in the TC... MFWD adds a pretty good chunk to the TN.

Mike.....My two cents worth is this......GO with the dealer! I use Krempasky Equipment in Honsdale, Pa. and they've been great. I think any tractor can have some problems. (I've had mine) Blue has been a solid long term performer. If your really worried about the distance ask if the warranty covers pickups. My dealer drives an hour to pick up mine for warranty related work. A service minded dealer makes all the difference. Good luck.

Another viable alternative is to buy used from the dealer. If it is a good dealer, a used tractor can be value added.

I walked into a great deal on my blue tractor. I was there looking at the Tc 18 My budget was 10K in my mind. I had also looked at the nrotrac ( jinma ) tractors from northern hydraulics... as they wer 6k.. but then cost another 1k to get it delivered.
While at the NH dealer, I saw my (now ) 1920. Looked great.. tires had just a bit of wear on them. Had a rebuilt engine in it w/ 4 hours on it... was rebuilt at the dealership.

Only wanted 9500 for it. I bought a cannopy at cost from them and they installed it and delivered it a couple days later.

Has been a great tractor.

A few weeks ago, they had another good deal. A 3010s with a 6' finishing mower on the lot, as a dealer rental or trade in. 280 hours on it.. wanted 11700.... not bad.. looked good. I started smelling it, and the treasurer ( wife ) gave me -that look-... so we went on buy and a few days later it was gone... -sigh-.

good luck.
