I'll go first:
I was in Africa recently and saw this pretty neat firepit built using 1" steel hex bar. What's cool about it is that it's essentially self-feeding, with the wood dropping down as it burns with an ash/ember tray at the bottom. If you've ever watched Game of Thrones, you'll see similar fire racks in some of the scenes. It would be easy to build with some #8 rebar.
